What is a twilight foster?

Simply put, a twilight foster is a foster animal that will always be in the Small Angels Rescue foster program. Some animals come to us very sick, as seniors, and/or with ongoing medical conditions. When this happens, the animal coordinators have a choice to make. Is this animal able to be adopted. Sometimes that answer is no. Rather than euthanize animals that cannot be adopted, the animal coordinators and their foster teams will care for the animals until they pass on. Small Angels is committed to improving the lives of all the animals under our care and that take the form of long-term care. Our twilight program is important because we believe that all animals deserve to be loved, safe, and comfortable regardless of their age or medical conditions.

As with our other foster homes, twilight foster homes get all the essentials to start off with: habitat, food, water bottle, wheel, nesting box, hay, and treats. After the initial supplies, fosters are expected to purchase bedding, food, hay, and treats on their own as well as any chew toys they may want. Fosters are not expected to arrange for or pay for veterinary care. Our twilight foster parents often need to be comfortable giving medicine to the animal or animals in their care and must be attentive to any changes in the animal’s condition. Working with a twilight foster animal can be a challenge, but the reward is knowing that the animal is receiving the best end of life care possible.
