Guinea Pigs

Why You Should Adopt Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pigs make gentle and lovable pets that will bring joy to your home! Guinea pigs:

  • are social beings – guinea pigs love attention
  • bond with their human guardians
  • have adorable vocalizations
  • love to explore new habitats

Before Adopting Guinea Pigs

Like any pet, guinea pigs will be totally dependent on you for everything they need to be happy and healthy. It’s crucial to talk about adoption as a family and discuss the shared responsibility for their care over their lifetime (5 to 8 years). Guinea pigs do better in pairs, therefore, we recommend adopting bonded pairs.

Over time, children may lose interest in these animals or leave home. If this happens, ask yourself: Are you, as a parent, willing to continue to care for your guinea pigs? If not, you should probably reconsider your decision to adopt guinea pigs.
